Mission Statement

The Commission was formed to promote and encourage the arts in San Mateo County; to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors; to provide a community, needs-driven Strategic Plan for the Arts in the county; to utilize a standard of operation by adhering to an accepted Policy Statement regarding arts and culture; and, to act as a liaison with art organizations to ensure collaboration and coordination related to cultural and art activities in San Mateo County.

Five members, one from each supervisorial district. Members must be residents of the County of San Mateo, who have demonstrated an interest in and commitment to the arts. The members shall not be County of San Mateo employees or officers.


4 years; to coincide with Supervisors' term; maximum 12 years


To promote and encourage the arts, to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors, oversee the process for preparing and updating the county's strategic and cultural plan, and act as a liaison with arts organizations to ensure collaboration and coordination relating to cultural and arts activities in San Mateo County.
